ABSTRACT

Anal fissure is a linear tear or ulcer in the lining of the distal anal canal below the dentate line. It is a common condition that may affect all age groups, but it is particularly seen in young and otherwise healthy adults, with equal incidence across the sexes.1 Many consider anal fissures to be ischemic in origin, but other causes of anal ulceration must be considered, especially in the presence of a low or normal anal sphincter tone.
