ABSTRACT

Concepts relating to mesenteric development have progressed significantly since WE Ladd first described the surgical management of congenital obstruction of the duodenum. As a result, understanding of abnormalities of rotation and fixation has evolved. In keeping with this it has been suggested that the term ‘malrotation’ is inaccurate and that ‘non-rotation’ or ‘abnormalities’ of rotation and fixation are more appropriate.1
