ABSTRACT

Between 50 and 70 percent of patients with Crohn’s disease (CD) undergo surgery during their lifetime. Extensive surgical resection in these patients may result in development of short gut syndrome and associated nutritional deficiencies. After a successful report of stricturoplasty for multiple strictures involving the small intestine caused by tuberculosis, 1 stricturoplasty has become increasingly the preferred technique over extensive resection in patients affected by diffuse obstructive small bowel CD or in those with prior resections with impending short bowel syndrome.2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
