ABSTRACT
The main indication for anterior resection is treatment of rectal adenocarcinoma. It entails removal of some or all of the rectum with restoration of intestinal continuity. The term anterior resection is, by definition, only applicable if the superior rectal artery has been ligated and an anastomosis constructed at least to the top of the rectum Figure 6.1.1.
