ABSTRACT

Inspection ● Standing in front of the patient, look for any obvious thyroid swellings or

asymmetry. ● Stridor may also be present if there is airway compression. ● Provide the patient with a glass of water and inspect again whilst they

swallow a sip. The thyroid moves upwards on swallowing, as it is contained within the pretracheal fascia, which is attached to the cricoid cartilage.
