ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we continue to discuss and illustrate how convective heat transfer rates are determined using empirical correlations that have been generated and verified over many years of effort. Our focus will be on convective heat transfer between a solid surface and a fluid that flows over its outside surface, that is, external flow. External flows, as discussed in Chapter 16, are considerably more complex than the internal flows considered in the previous chapter.
