ABSTRACT

The term “certication” describes both a strategy and a process used to restrict or eliminate crop pests and diseases. Through the certication process, a crop is endorsed if it meets specied standards involving pest and disease occurrence, physical appearance, and genetic off-types. These standards are described in published guidelines that are prepared by agricultural authorities and may be supported by legislation. Propagators who participate in the certication process (certied propagators) must follow these guidelines to produce plants that may be distributed both nationally and internationally as “certied plants.”
