ABSTRACT

In conventional vegetative plant propagation, much attention is focused on the use of various types of stem cuttings, with much less attention paid to the use of structures such as roots and leaves. For many species, particularly hardwood trees, some fruit species, and some herbaceous perennials, root cuttings present a viable alternative to seed or stem cutting propagation. Leaf cuttings also receive less attention than stem cuttings for the propagation of tropical foliage plants, but for those plants that root easily from leaves, either with or without petioles, leaf cuttings remain a useful technique for obtaining additional plants. There are many surprising ways in which plants can be successfully propagated.
