ABSTRACT

This entry includes a new pragmatic approach to motor efficiency estimation, based on generally accepted standards in the industry. The methodology estimates the efficiency of the motor according to its size (hp) and its rpm, and then accurately reflects the efficiency value for that motor (under certain standard conditions), as required for motor energy management analysis. One of the main advantages offered by this approach is that it gives a reliable and quick estimation of motor efficiency, available for the analysts with little data gathering. Most importantly, the results are in excellent agreement with American standards references. We present our findings, supported by three-dimensional efficiency surfaces using extrapolation techniques, which indicate the best working conditions.
