ABSTRACT

Biofuel development hinges on abundant, affordable, convertible, and sustainably produced non-food biomass. Agricultural and forestry wastes are important for initiating biofuels production. Bioenergy crop development is likely to favor crops that have many, if not all, of 10 favorable attributes and are amenable to genetic and cultural improvements. Regionally promising crops include Panicum, Pennisetum, Saccharum, Salix, Populus, and Eucalyptus species.
