ABSTRACT

The power generation industry has been, and continues to be, deeply concerned about the lack of a qualified workforce. Additionally, state and federal governments are placing mandates on the amount of power that will need to be generated by renewable energy sources. These mandates are constantly increasing the percentage of power, which must come from alternative clean energy. To satisfy these demands, industry will need to hire multidisciplinary quality engineers with a broad range of skills capable of designing, developing, and integrating new technologies applied to the alternative and renewable energy technology industry. The Penn State Hazleton Campus has developed a new innovative Bachelor of Science in general engineering with an alternative energy and power generation option. This new Bachelor of Science degree will prepare graduates to enter the job market in the alternative and renewable energy sector as well as the power generation industry. Graduates of this program will have the critical knowledge and skills needed to begin their careers in this growing industry.
