ABSTRACT
Antibiotics are different chemical compounds that kill (microbicidal action) or suppress the growth or replication of pathogenic or nonpathogenic microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and protozoans. The large number of antibiotics, besides the β-lactam group, currently available can be classied in a variety of ways, for example, by their chemical structure, microbial origin, or mode of action.
