ABSTRACT

Introduction The computer field abounds with controversy and different points of view. As Mark Twain said (www.brainyquote.com/quotes), “A man with a new idea is considered a crank until the idea succeeds.” This section (and book) offers useful and practical tools and techniques that have been tested regarding how to execute projects more objectively and successfully. The textbook is designed for easy reading, with minimal jargon as possible. The material covered is appropriate for managing projects of all types. It is also readable for individuals who want to learn more about the internal mechanics involved in the development of new applications and for anyone who wants to learn the “insides” of developing new systems. This book has two related objectives. The first is to find realistic ways to eliminate the negative effects of developing systems using tools and techniques and to look at key ways that are needed to have successful projects that help improve organizations (Smith 1983).
