Many measurements of physical phenomena are done using a transducer to convert the physical process into an electrical signal, which is typically
filtered and amplified before being stored or sent to an output display device. The formal relationship between the input signal and the output response of an electrical circuit is called the transfer function. A simple transfer function is the ratio of the output voltage over the input voltage. For example, for the simple RC low pass filter shown below, the transfer function is:
