ABSTRACT
The effect of gravity on liquid surfaces is treated in this chapter. The ¡ows associated with surface waves will be assumed to be potential, which is a valid approximation for many free-surface phenomena. Most of the ¡ows treated here will be two-dimensional. However, the treatment of surface waves has been separated from the other two-dimensional potential ¡ows because of the different nature of the problems and the different approaches to their solutions.
