ABSTRACT

In modern times, optical combustion diagnostics are being used extensively to unravel underlying complex phenomena that occurring during combustion that are essential to enhance not only the performance of the combustion system but also for the reduction of harmful pollutant emissions. Combustion diagnostics are being used to generate experimental data that are required to validate the modeling work. Several types of combustion diagnostic tools have been developed and applied in designing new combustion systems to meet the demand of energy and stringent emission regulations. The field of combustion diagnostics is evolving at a rapid rate, and hence some of the important optical-based measurement methods are discussed in this chapter.
