ABSTRACT
X-rays were discovered, and named, in 1895 by Wilhelm Roentgen, who was carrying out an investigation into the nature of electric discharges (cathode
rays) in an evacuated glass tube. A new ray What Roentgen noticed was that where the cathode rays struck the glass wall of the tube, a new type of ray appeared that travelled a great distance and caused some materials to glow when struck by it.
