ABSTRACT
Gravity acts on all the atoms in a body, but it is convenient (for the purposes of mechanical analysis) to imagine that the gravitational force acts at a
single point. The centre of mass is that point in the body through which the force of gravity can be said to act. The position of the centre of mass for an object can be calculated by considering its dimensions. Even complicated shaped bodies can be readily analysed.
