Force-–is an external agency capable of altering the state of rest or of motion of a body; defined by Newton’s Law: F = ma, where F is the force in newtons (N), m is the mass in kilograms (kg), and a is the acceleration in m s-2. Note the equivalency of units: N = kg m s-2.
