ABSTRACT

As the famous saying goes, “The devil is in the details.” The system safety analyses we perform can be only as good as the data we obtain. We must clearly understand the data limits and assumptions. Otherwise, the safety analyses will be suspect. Luckily, one good thing about living in an information age is that there are multiple sources of data, including system safety data. But information alone is not knowledge, and knowledge alone is not necessarily wisdom. What we do with the information to create wisdom is what needs to drive system safety.
