ABSTRACT
There is, of course, mathematics without equations, but for mathematicians, as for physicists, engineers, and astronomers, equations are a desirable goal. We are always glad when we can summarize a state of affairs in an equation-a process we call “modeling”—because equations express things precisely and exactly; for equations there is only correct or incorrect, no “possibly” or “something like that.”
