ABSTRACT
The President's Cabinet consists of the heads of the federal departments. Called Secretaries, they are nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate. Cabinet members manage their departments and serve as policy advisors to the president. Presidents may utilize the cabinet or any of its members as they please. Recently, the cabinet and department heads have become less influential in presidential decision making as presidents tend to rely more on White House Staff and other advisors for help.
