ABSTRACT
This entry describes policing practices in Latin America, their main drivers, and the consequences. Although crime problems and types of police forces vary throughout the region, it is possible to observe similar practices inspired by international policing models but adapted to local situations. Two examples of policing practices are presented and the entry concludes with a discussion of challenges to increase effectiveness in Latin American police forces.
