ABSTRACT

Ethinomics is the comprehensive study of the costs of ethical and unethical behavior at both the micro- and macrolevels. It assumes a rational choice model of human behavior, and assesses the value of ethical behavior in organizations, for individuals, and for societies as a whole as a cost–benefit ratio. Beyond doing good for the nontangible outcomes, this area of study looks to quantify the value of ethicality. This entry provides an overview of this area of growing interest in ethics scholarship.
