ABSTRACT

A ballpark can have different effects on the various players performance statistics. The unique configuration of Fenway Park in Boston, for example, enhances the likelihood of a batted ball to become a double, especially flyballs to left, which often caiom off the Green Monster. The proposed approach to calculating park factors makes several simplifying assumption. The first assumption is that the home team and the ballpark are considered interchangeable. One reason for Coors becoming less of an extreme park is the installation of a humidor. Next the frequency of home runs per batted ball is computed for all MLB teams both at home and on the road. The first assumption is that the home team and the ballpark are considered interchangeable. Sean Lahman provides his historical database of seasonal stats in several formats.
