ABSTRACT
The Marching Cubes and dual contouring algorithms construct isosurfaces as approximations to the level set φ−1(σ). However, the scalar function φ is not given; only function values at the vertices of the regular grid are known. In what sense does an isosurface approximate a level set φ−1(σ) when φ is unknown?
