ABSTRACT

The greenhouse effect can, in fact, be quantified in two key ways. The simplest is that temperature difference of 33°C: after all, we are far more familiar with temperatures than with Watts per square metre. However, we need to be able to quantify the effects of these gases in terms of their effects on thermal radiation flows: this will be central to our understanding of the radiative and climatic effects of any changes in the composition of the atmosphere, the central concern of Climate Science today.
