ABSTRACT
This book is aimed squarely at the radiation pillar, leaving dynamics for another book and/or another course. Nevertheless, we believe that readers need at least some appreciation of the role that both the atmosphere and the oceans play in energy transport within the climate system and the implications this has for climate change on various spatial scales. That is the purpose of this chapter and Chapter 6.
