ABSTRACT

The basic formalism of wave-scattering processes is essentially the same, whether it be Acoustic, Electromagnetic or Quantum Mechanical. In this chapter, we shall first develop this formalism and then examine scattering by “small” objects, such as molecules, and “large” objects, such as aerosol particles and cloud droplets. In this context, size is measured by comparison with the wavelength of the incident radiation, which for our purposes ranges from the near UV through the infrared and beyond.
