ABSTRACT

Rather than include aerosols as a section in the previous chapter, we believe that they deserve a full chapter of their own. For a start, aerosols vary enormously, in many ways, as we will see, and in this respect they differ radically from gases. To quote Stephen Schwartz’s plenary address to the first Australian Aerosol Workshop in 2005: “If you’ve seen one carbon dioxide molecule you’ve seen them all: If you’ve seen one aerosol particle, you’ve seen one aerosol particle”.
