ABSTRACT

Although the choice between two high resolution analyzers is generally easy according to the field of activity and the budget dedicated to the purchase, the choice of a quadrupolar analyzer is often difficult for novice users. Choosing between a quadrupole and a triple quadrupole is easy based on the concept that if a triple quadrupole allows MS/ MS and MRM, it is possible to make it work as a simple quadrupole if necessary. In this case, the collision cell is under secondary vacuum (no collision gas) and works under radiofrequency only. The first or third quadrupole is also programmed for radiofrequency only; that is, it focalizes ions without operating a selection. The choice between a quadrupole and triple quadrupole is thus easy if the budget allows the purchase of the triple quadrupole!
