ABSTRACT

There is a hackneyed expression that a coward dies a thousand deaths. Perhaps, the modern equivalent is that an ill-informed citizen is poisoned by a thousand pollutants. Any dire misperception of a world full of deadly pollutants would be exaggerated for most people and ecological entities. Of course, there is also the counterpoint misconception that what you do not know will not hurt you. This belief is also demonstrably exaggerated for environmental toxicants.
