ABSTRACT
The main objective of this chapter is to introduce a reader to the design and components of typical electrochemical cells. Some other topics, mainly related to the backgroundof electrochemical science and engineering, will also be covered. Faraday’s law of electrolysis and the current-cell potential dependence will be introduced in the chapter. Adescription of Daniell cell operating in equilibrium, electrolytic, and galvanic modes will be given. A new approach in presenting the electrochemical diagrams is proposed. Ashort review on the most important quantities, their names, and units as well as the key laws of electric circuits are brie«y discussed.
