ABSTRACT
It is estimated that prolapse affects 12-30 per cent of multiparous and 2 per cent of nulliparous women. In the UK, approximately 30 000 prolapse operations are performed each year and in the USA the number is 400 000. A woman has an 11 per cent lifetime risk of having an operation for prolapse.
