ABSTRACT

About the chapter This chapter focuses on the emerging role of ergonomics and industrial engineering in product design, especially in regard to rapid prototyping and usability testing at all stages of the product design cycle. Some of the specific topics addressed include quality function deployment (QFD), requirements analysis, expert assessment, usability and preference testing, and the use of designed experiments. The central theme of this discussion is that the design of products should be Human Central, to help ensure products satisfy critical customer requirements.
