ABSTRACT
About the chapter This chapter focuses on the important role of inspection in quality control and other applications. Some common ergonomic issues are addressed, and suggestions are given for how to analyze and improve the design of inspection tasks. The chapter also introduces the use of signal detection theory (SDT) as a quantitative framework for describing and evaluating inspector performance. The following sections focus on inspection economics and the topic of continuous improvement, emphasized so heavily by Deming.
