ABSTRACT

Molecular biology examines the transfer of information within a cell, which is the basic functional unit of life. Cells exist as single cellular organisms up to the basic functional and structural units of tissues and organs within the body. The challenges associated with multiple tasks required for cells from movement to metabolism need unique proteins at unique moments in time. Much as you or I would rely on instructions when we carry out a task or our computer relies on code when we request it to carry out a calculation, cells carry with them the genetic code to produce all required proteins. This genetic code and how the information contained within it is transferred and translated to produce proteins is the primary focus of molecular biology.
