Arguably the most famous computer quotation of all time is from Stanley Kubrick’s epic motion picture 2001: A Space Odyssey [1]. The computer in this film, named HAL, proclaims itself to be “foolproof and incapable of error.” Of course, there have been countless other stories, movies, and television shows that have portrayed computers as devices with limitless capabilities. We humans seem truly fascinated by the thought that our inventions might one day be infallible in ways that we are not.
