ABSTRACT

By 2050, more than 50% of the US population will consist of people from different cultural backgrounds. According to the estimates from the 2011 American Community Survey, roughly 11.7 million, or 29%, of the immigrant population in the United States is from Mexico. Chinese and Indian immigrants make up the second and third largest immigrant groups, with 1.9 million or 5% of the foreign-born population each. As of 2010, India replaced the Philippines as the third largest source country of migration to the United States (Hipsman and Meissner 2013).
