ABSTRACT

One of the most interesting elements in the periodic table is carbon. Beside diamond and graphite, carbon has other allotropes such as a nanotube and nanoribbons. After its experimental proof, graphene has gained in importance and is studied intensely due to its unique electronic properties. To use graphene in electronics, various kinds of graphene are required. To modify electronic properties, doping is one of the most used methods. There are many theoretical studies on this subject, with both n-type and p-type behaviors observed. For the synthesis of graphene, growth on transition metals is gaining in importance due to the quality and cost of ownership. Therefore, interaction between graphene and transition metals is also important. In this chapter, we compile the important ndings on the effects of doping with transition metals on the electronic properties of graphene nanosheets and the effects of both doping and termination with transition metals on the electronic properties of graphene nanoribbons.
