ABSTRACT
Despite the best maintenance, a machine may fail. The reasons for failure are many, like inherent design flaws, improper material choice or material defects, manufacturing or installation defects, and service life anomalies. In such a situation, the diagnostician is usually left to perform a rootcause analysis of a failure. In this chapter, an overview and step-by-step procedure for conducting a failure analysis of failed machine components is presented.
