ABSTRACT

In machinery condition monitoring, a decision on the condition of a machine is dependent on the nature of its signals. For example, if the machine produces excessive noise and vibration, one gets a clue that something is not normal with the machine. These signals are usually time varying and need to be understood because they carry the information from the machine to the decision system, which can be a developed software or a person. Here we will focus our attention on a very fundamental signal, given by Equation (5.1).

x(t) = Asin(ωt+ϕ) (5.1)
