ABSTRACT

Metabolic disorders, including dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, obesity, and type 2 diabetes, are major public health problems. Thus, large research efforts are in place to understand the etiology, prevention, and treatment of these disorders. Although the causes of obesity and type 2 diabetes are complex, lifestyle changes can prevent or delay their onset. For example, the Diabetes and Prevention Program demonstrated that changes in diet and physical activity reduced the development of type 2 diabetes by 58% [1].
