A primary building block of statistical inference is the concept of probability. However, this concept has actually been the subject of significant debate over time. Hacking [16] provides a detailed discussion of the evolution of the concept of probability:
Probability has two aspects. It is connected with the degree of belief warranted by evidence, and it is connected with the tendency, displayed by some chance devices, to produce stable relative frequencies [16, p. 1].
