ABSTRACT

We live in a world full of electronic devices. Stop for a minute and think of all the ones encountered each day. Your smartphone with its alarm usually is the first. This electronic marvel contains a color display, a digital still and video camera, a global positioning system, several other sensors, a wireless transceiver, an uncountable number of downloaded ‘apps’, and one of many sounds that remind you to get out of bed. Before we even leave for class or work we have used electric lights, shavers, toothbrushes, blow dryers, coffee pots, toasters, microwave ovens, refrigerators, and televisions, to name a few. At the heart of all these devices are electrical circuits. For us to become competent experimentalists we need to understand the basics of the electrical circuits present in most instruments. In this chapter we will review some of the fundamentals of electrical circuits.
