ABSTRACT

Calculus is a branch of mathematics the origins of which were the basis of an acrimonious dispute between two great mathematicians-Sir Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz-both of whom claimed to be the discoverer. Differential calculus is concerned with the rate at which a function changes while integral calculus extends the idea that the sum of a nite number of separate values can be used to form a continuous value as, for instance, in determining the area under a curve.
