ABSTRACT

In this chapter we will consider the two-dimensional (2D) representation of threedimensional (3D) objects in what is sometimes called visualization. We often need to display the landscape in perspective on a screen or on paper. The problem is how best to transfer the 3D coordinates of a point in space onto a at surface. In Chapter 11, we will look at the specic case of points on the surface of the Earth and how they can be displayed on a map, for instance, in an atlas. Here, we are looking at 3D Euclidean space in general and how that may be transformed into two dimensions.
