ABSTRACT
This chapter presents a case study of Bernadette, aged 32, and her partner Ben, a chef, own a French restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Affectionately known to the locals as Benny and Bernie, Ben and Bernadette have become highly regarded fixtures in the dining establishment, offering an eclectic mixture of traditional French dishes and modern Continental cuisine. Bernie's medical history opens with the visit of her younger sister, whom she has not seen for three years. Bernie comes with her sister, having worked all through the lunch sitting at the restaurant. The general physical examination is normal; all of the abnormal findings concern the nervous system. Bernie sits on the examining table in a stooped position; she seems to have trouble holding her head and upper trunk erect enough to look at one face-on. In consequence, we can immediately exclude the presence of a lesion involving lower motor neurons.
