Now that we know how to import our data (see Chapter 1), the next step in statistical analysis is to understand various aspects of our data better. For example, it would be helpful to have an idea of how the data are distributed before conducting hypothesis tests or constructing models. In this chapter, we illustrate how to estimate some statistics that describe the location and scale of our data, along with ways to visually understand how the data are distributed.
