In this chapter, we are going to cover two of the main areas or tasks in the area of machine learning. The first is referred to as classification, pattern recognition, or supervised learning. The second one is an exploratory data analysis technique known as unsupervised learning or clustering. We will briefly describe some background for the methods and then demonstrate the MATLAB® functions. All of the functions for supervised and unsupervised learning described in this chapter are from the Statistics Toolbox.
